San Diego Local 229’s 1,450 members work on just about everything: solar, educational, institutional, geothermal, infrastructure and plenty of road work. There’s a 50-50 split of structural and reinforcing ironwork.

San Diego’s economy is ‘booming’, and that economic health is expected to last into the mid- and longer-term future, especially once the state’s High Speed Rail system – with all of its requirements for bridges, overpasses and underpasses – reaches the full-construction phase.

Local 229 trains about 200 new apprentices each year. Union travelers are welcome, as are ironworkers not represented by our union.
