We don’t actually hire people.

We work with employers to provide them with the skilled workers they need, on time and wherever those workers are required. In the end, it's the employer who hires you. Most of our employers use the Local union dispatch system when hiring Iron Workers.

We keep records of your training, experience and skills. When employers call us to say they need people with certain skills, we search our records for members with those skills and we dispatch them to the employer. For Locals that use a hiring list, the ironworker who is closest to the top of the list (and with with the proper credentials) will be dispatched.

Our dispatchers are fair. They don't play favorites.

When an employer calls to say a job is ending, we work hard to find new work for our members who are being laid off. We’re pretty good at doing that.

NOTE: A small number of our Locals do not dispatch from the union hall. Their members are free to solicit their own work.

Bottom line: when we take you on as a new member, it'll be when we don't have enough current members to satisfy existing or near-future employer demand and we need people with your skills and experience.

Once you're a member, we guarantee you'll be treated fairly.

When you apply and tell us you're interested, you need to be patient at first.

But if you’re qualified, or if our employers need apprentices, your turn will come!
